Rick Schwartz: "Timing Is Everything"

Flashbacks from the vaults circa 2000:

"Timing is EVERYTHING!!

I can't stress this enough. I have seen businesses all my life FAIL because they were AHEAD of the market. Some VERY smart folks with GREAT business plans but simply ahead of their times.

I think that was never more important then on the net. Human behavior on the net is in early devlopment. I use the ChristmasCarols.com domain as a great example. As I said before, last year it only got 25 visitors a day during the Christmas season. I think it hit a high of 36 on Christmas eve. This year already over 600 daily visitors and growing very quickly.

Last year it wasn't worth the effort of building that particular site. I try and let the market DICTATE to ME as to how and when I should proceed. The market is ALWAYS smarter than I can be."

The do's and don'ts on a website....

I seldom visit a site that can't make HUGE improvements with a few SIMPLE changes.

I used to critique sites for adult webmasters. I don't think I reviewed a single site that I did not increase their revenue by ATLEAST 20%. Many times I could double or triple revenues with their existing traffic just with 3 or 4 modifications.

I believe that was how I discovered that the "Enter button" was the most powerful link on the net and the near perfect website. :-))

There are some common mistakes that so many websites make. Some of these mistakes result in loss of MILLIONS of dollars in revenue. MILLIONS. For the last 4 years I have said that there is more sales being pissed away on the net than ACTUAL sales being made. I can't even count the times I have bought something online and then they just dump me at a dead end.

You wonder what they do with 1000 employees and loads of dead ends. lol

The unfortunate part is you need TRAFFIC to experiment and see what works. Most don't have the luxury of working with fairly good amounts of POTENT traffic. No matter how many turns the internet makes, TRAFFIC will always be the key.

The internet may experience something after the collapse is over..........some sporatic success stories will begin to emerge!
