"But she decided to take the plunge because of her lack of experience in the field. "I'm an English teacher, not a businessperson," says Ms. Shaffert. Over time, the consultant helped steer her away from a pet-hotel chain and into a mobile pet-grooming business—one that wasn't in his portfolio—based on an evaluation of her resources and availability.
After she decided to buy into Aussie Pet Mobile, the consultant attended meetings set up by the company to help her better understand the business, went over the paperwork with her and is now helping her find an accountant."I would've paid anything to have him by my side," she says."
Elliot Silver has already proven a late comer can be very successful in domaining. For he is one of the smartest and most successful I have ever met at it.
And one of the veins he's mined that strikes a chord with me as a dog owner and pet lover is DogWalker.com. The ever-growing pet industry proves that pet owners love to pamper their pets. In fact, the money spent on pets has skyrocketed to $32 billion a year - up 100% since 1992. And it's a niche ripe for creative disruption, Recently we wrote about another disruptive pet industry idea PetStopClinic.com.
According to (laugh) The Fido Factor:
62% of US households own a pet; 39% own a dog
Total Pet Industry Market Size
2009 - $45.4B
2008 - $43.2B
2007 - $41.2B
2009 - $45.4B
2008 - $43.2B
2007 - $41.2B
Annual Dog Ownership Costs
$453 - Surgical Vet Visits
$217 - Food
$225 - Kennel Boarding
$219 - Routine Vet
$127 - Groomer/Grooming Aids
$77 - Vitamins
$66 - Treats
$41 - Toys
"As urban dog owners these numbers are not even close to what it costs to care for our citified Vizsla. For example, in San Francisco doggie daycare costs about $500 per month. Our "routine" vet care seems to be about $100 per visit and when our puppy came down with kennel cough and pneumonia the vet bill was $1500. If you think that sounds expense, the NY Times recently reported that some French Bulldog (Frenchie) owners spend up to $40k over their dog's lifetime. Needless to say owning a dog can be expensive but it is worth every penny!"
I am very envious of Elliot's DogWalker.com and feel it holds the most potential of his entire portfolio. The key would be to get a message where people are search for jobs that says- for $49 while you are waiting to get hired, you can be earning great say money by walking dogs (I met a guy who makes $700 a day!!)
The other side is to find students looking for part-time work- wear our shirt to the dog park and recruit walkers as well as show owners where to go when they need help- give them 50%- they will be very motivated compared to $11 hour working at Walmart.

Aussie Pet Mobile Branded Vehicle Photo: Look at this mess of confusion that's crying out for a clear, simple memorable call-to-action like DogGroomers.com
That's a tactic that worked well for Elliot's best prospect, coincidentally, for DogGroomers.com- Aussie Pet Mobile. Aussie Pet Mobile brought Jason Sadler of I Wear Your Shirt fame in Florida to Vancouver for a half day conference.
"As Aussie Pet Mobile further embarks on it's Social Media marketing efforts they felt it important to share about leveraging social and partnering in local events such as this.
Attendees learned the story of how Jason built IWearYourShirt.com from nothing and on bare bones marketing along, got noticed by media outlets such as CNN and The Today Show, just to name a few. Jason has worked with over 1,000+ companies including Starbucks and Nissan. Jason will share how his use of popular and effective social media outlets, such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Ustream and Flickr, can work for any business."
A good article on pet services by CNBC highlights consumer demand for comprehensive dog care solutions. High-End Doggy Day Care: No Downsizing For Fido
Combining health-related products with a comprehensive suite of services is a growing trend in pet retail. These pet owners can be stickier than in other segments, spending more money per visit and coming back more often than shoppers in the other pet segments. Consumer spending demographics give a clue as to why: the segment is widely bought by higher income pet owners. For example, over 50% of nationwide pet services spending was by households making over $100,000 per year.
If you operate a pet business, or own a pet-related domain name, like Elliot check out our upcoming 2012 pet industry research.
But for Elliot, Aussie Pet Mobile as exclusive sponsor or acquirer of PetGroomer.com is a $2 million prospect
They've already generated $27 million in fees plus they get 4% a year Fastest growing franchise People are buying more than one DogGroomer.com should be a $2 million domain because their current name is hard to remember, difficult to pronounce and who wants an aussie dog groomer in NY Imagine if they had the annual meeting and announced this site and showed how they could get business by walking dog parks with t-shirt need a dog groomer?
I can see a billboard:
"Dog Groomer Makes House Calls"
DogGroomers.com
At 60 miles an hour on a Freeway that would stick- the current billboard with the photo of the truck and all the copy doesn't.
If I were a franchisee and you came to me with that billboard, I'd split the cost: Just look at the money 269 Franchisees are spending now
Check out their ad for groomers wanted
And check out their tv spot
They also sell pet insurance.
And as I end this post I am off to take Honey, my own pet for one of an average $100 worth of monthly groomings.
