Apple Zaps Type-ins Out of Existence on New Safari Release

"I cannot believe they just went and changed this in a routine software update!!! Dare I say that they are beginning to act like another software company a little further north"

A customer writes on an Apple forum
"Very disappointed in the new Safari. Combining the search window and the address window make the product less flexible and difficult to use. My google search that is normally in top right of screen has vanished. I have tried 'View-Customise Toolbar' and can see that the search bar is there to move but is greyed out. I can add other buttons and functions just not search... any ideas? "

Yep. The idea is that Google pays Apple for every search (over a billion dollars paid to Apple last year). Both have strong incentive to confuse url and search bars and thereby make money by hijacking user intention.

For domainers with parked pages, this has already cost up to 1/3 of the visits, generally redirected to the highest advertiser on the parked page now on the search results page, directly cutting two middlemen out.

I tried to warn you and explain this here months ago with regard to both Safari and Firefox.

It won't be for long though. SIRI is coming to eliminate ALL typing and will be your net navigator.

Income domains bought on traditional metrics are doomed. Brandables that are easy to remember, spell and for SIRI to pronounce and have meaning to a niche group of people, will be golden and bullion golden if in dotCOM!
