Trip It (.com) Brandable Domain Takes Advertising and Brand Building

It's not a bad strategy since it works for ChristianMingle.com and others. Of course when I see this name I read "i" "t" as in information technology, so without seeing this spot I'd just assume Trip was the surname of the owner of an IT sales and services company. Therefore it takes huge advertising investments to make TripIt.com known whereas a travel brand named Trip.com would essentially be an ad (unless and until they make acid and mushroom trips legal)
