Fresh on the back of the sales of Pharmacy.com and Happy.com to Walgreens, it seems the launch of the new "g"s has put more pressure on brands to lock in the category killer generics while they still can.
Now Blinds.com, which generated web sales of $90 million in 2012, was acquired yesterday by Home Depot for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition gives the chain store retailer more access to the online niche market of build-it-yourself window treatments.
Blinds.com was owned by Marc Ostrofsky who set domain name sales records in the late 90s selling Business.com for $7.5 million, and mots recently parted with MutualFund.com at the Heritage auction. Mr Ostrofsky is also the author of Get Rich Click.
Marc Ostrofsky made headlines in 1999 with the $7.5 million sale of Business.com to eCompanies and, at the time, was the most expensive domain name ever sold. This, only a few years after he purchased the name for $150,000. However once a business was built on Business.com it became attractive to RR Donnelly in a $150 Million acquisition.
Marc founded five high tech Internet and telecommunications magazines and a dozen technology trade shows, which were subsequently sold for millions.
He is a true serial entrepreneur. He also founded www.idNames.com, an international domain name registry service that was sold to Network Solutions. Marc is the owner hundreds of premium and generic domain names, including MutualFunds.com, Bachelor.com, HeartDisease.com, and Photographer.com. He’s the co-founder and the President of Internet REIT, Inc., a next-generation Internet media company that owns and manages high-quality domain names. Some of his current sites include CuffLinks.com, eTickets.com, and SummerCamps.com.
