Frank Schilling Closes June Selling PlanetHistory (.com) TO A&E- Why It's Not dot TV and Full June Results

Frank Schilling wasn't bullish on dotTv and blogged about it here. he didn't buy many because, like me, he knew TV was going to become the FAX of watching content. But every show would need a name and great dotCOM names would stand the test of time.  Hence the large profitable and lucrative PlanetHistory.com to A&E's History Channel.

As an example of what's happening in TV, and how big media is casting doubt on dotTV is how ad agencies are switching budgets to shows now on Netflix, YouTube and Yahoo.

These anywhere, any device, anytime, offerings cater too the millennial generation who doesn't gather round the television and to wait for breaking news, or with their family to watch the Brady bunch (substitute any 3 network 8PM hits) as in past history.

We've repeatedly stressed Seth Godin's predictions for Hollywood disintermediation meaning the monopolies are dying and that anyone with a domain and a dream could be a broadcast medium.

And that's happening now. Royal Caribbean has pulled funds from its TV budget to sponsor two new series from teen-centric YouTube network AwesomenessTV. Startup kids will makes almost $200 Million! (AwesomenessTVnetwork.com). The stakes are high and the good domain show titles should come cheap.

According to AdAge:
"We did take money from our TV budget to do this," said Carol Schuster, senior VP-marketing worldwide at Royal Caribbean. She declined to say how much the brand is spending on the idea, but called it "a sizable investment."
"Royal Caribbean spent $45.6 million on TV advertising last year, down 1% from 2012, according to Kantar Media. The brand spent $3.7 million on online display advertising in 20143, but that figure doesn't include digital video advertising."
"AwesomenessTV's network of YouTube channels attracted 7.98 million U.S. desktop unique viewers in May, according to ComScore. Ms. Greve said the network accrues roughly 1 billion views each month when factoring in Big Frame, the YouTube network it bought in April for $15 million."
"AwesomenessTV had another edge in getting Royal Caribbean's attention. DreamWorks Animation bought the company for $33.5 million last May with earn-outs that could add another $95 million to the deal."

Now that's where the money is in TV!! And Advertisers are moving their money accordingly.

Another example of how Hollywood and Advertisers are reimagining their futures is Jerry Seinfields ComediansInCarsGettingCoffee.com sponsored by guess what-- the car. Jerry owns, writes and stars in this simple production that's really taken off and could exceed the $800 million he's earned from Seinfeld rerun royalties.

For the second season in a row, Jerry Seinfeld has taken a stab at writing Acura ads that will appear before and after episodes of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." Acura recently signed on to be the exclusive sponsor of 24 new episodes (seasons six, seven, eight and nine) that will run on Sony Pictures Television's Crackle.com. And it's sponsoring this season and as well as another set to run online in the fall.

Now back to...this week's Domain Name Sales house sales results include great travel, tourism and geo names. Great medical names. Donna Schaffer continued to leverage her vast technical product knowledge for APP names (she envisioned these long before anyone here heard the word APP like TrackRealty.Com and RecordPoint.Com). Dr. Schilling Sr's medical knowledge also made a difference as evidenced by the complex names son Frank understood value enough in to grab and now sells (DrugClaim.Com, HouseClinic.Com, HydroponicSystems.Com, Hyperthermia.Com .

The fact soccer would become big in the US and names would be needed was also not lost a decade or more ago on German-born, Vancouver-bred Schilling. Frank definitely knew the market was global before he started. he thought bigger and wider and that's why names of this quality will continue to flow into the end user market for years with only increase in value.

Plus a news Wall Street start up is making a play for premium dot US domains. Does the influence of the new G's suddenly make the world stand up and take notice of what is, in my view, the most untapped, underrated opportunity in domain branding today--dot US as in Frager.US??

Of course the Chinese buyers are taking control of the entire numeric play, so forget about what we thought would be zip code marketing. Another analogy to what with .TV what was was and what we think is is usually not.

I expect final quarterly audited and vetted results with numbers soon. You will see these are but a mare smidgen of the total DNS June output.
